Classes are finished and summer has officially arrived! The lab is more than excited to relax and unwind in the sunshine. While we wait for better weather to greet us, the students in the lab are still busy at work, marching ahead in their academics and research.
Stephanie Santiago-Michels, a 3rd year PhD Student in the Queens College Clinical Psych program and instructor for the REU program, presented her poster "The Role of Mentored Research Programs in Neuroscience on Enhancing First Generation College Students' Research Gains" at the May 2024 Association for Psychological Science (APS), Society for the Teaching of Psychology (STP) Conference in San Francisco, California. Stephanie recently received a Psychology Tithe Award through the Graduate Center to support her research and will also be starting her first clinical externship at the Queens College Psychological Center (QCPC) this July.
More Lab Updates: Pranitha Premnath, a 4th year PhD Student in the Queens College Clinical Psych program, will be beginning her second clinical externship this July. During the Spring semester, Pranitha and Stephanie were involved in successfully implementing the QCPC Geriatric Wellness Series for the Pomonok Senior Center. This collaboration targeted phase of life challenges/well-being for our geriatric community, including mood, anxiety, memory, cognition, pain, and sexuality. The participants loved the clinicians, and were well engaged and eager to participate!
Additionally, we are very proud to announce that PhD students Caroline Nester and Katherine Chang have defended their dissertations! Both were cheered on by their families, friends, cohort, and lab mates.
Caroline presented her work "Self-Perceived Cognitive Functioning in Motoric Cognitive Risk Syndrome: Enhancing Risk Detection in Health Disparity Older Adults”, successfully defended her dissertation, and will be walking at this upcoming commencement.
Kathy presented her work “Enhancing the Accuracy of the Mild Cognitive Impairment Diagnosis in Community-Based, Racially/Ethnically Diverse Older Adults” and gave a fantastic presentation. We will post an official announcement of the results!
As two wonderful students prepare to take off and enter the field, we are happy to announce that we will have two new PhD students joining our lab! We welcome incoming 1st-year Clinical Psychology students, Caroline Carlton and Jin Kang, to the Rabin Lab! Congratulations on this achievement and we are excited for you both to enter this journey.
We wish everyone a great and restful summer!
